After a long heart-wrenching day, the injured friends all got together to pray for Selene. They all decided to meet at Susan’s house, since it felt like one of the most comforting places to be, and it was big enough for all of them. Susan’s parents knew about what was going on, and warmly invited them all inside. They all sat in the living room and for a short time, they looked at each other silently. Every face they saw was filled with sorrow. Chance spoke first, “Are we going to do this, or not?” no one replied. “Please… we have to do this for Selene.” He said tearfully. Morgan put his hand on Chance’s shoulder, “We will, Chance. We’re waiting for someone else.” And as he said, a new person walked in, Selene’s life-long friend Allie. She was not usually part of their group, but she was still Selene’s strongest and closest friends. Allie’s reaction to the news of Selene’s death showed in her tear-streaked face and reddened eyes. She sat with them and took the hands of Damien and Susan, who were sitting on each side of her. The rest reacted with the same gesture. Allie looked at them all and said, “I know not all of you believe in Christ. But this is the day we must open our hearts to Him. Everyone close their eyes. Let’s pray…” As the prayer went on, each of them saying an individual prayer, each of them felt their sorrow lift from their hearts. Even Chance felt a warm comfort penetrate the aching pain in his heart. When they had said “Amen”, they were all smiling.

The comfort didn’t stick for too long. A few days went by, and nothing had changed. After a few days, Selene’s funeral was hosted. Even with their major injuries, they all came to pay their respects, but the overwhelming emptiness of their pain made it hard. By the end, Chance was sobbing uncontrollably and cursing God, asking why He didn’t bring the love of his life back to him. At the end of the service in the church, they were all invited to give their final goodbyes by walking to the casket. Because of how horribly brutalized she was from the accident, her parents requested the casket be closed. A line formed as one by one her family and friends walked up to the closed pure white casket decorated with red rose embroidery and said their goodbyes and placed bouquets and kisses upon it and walked away crying. Selene’s friends who were with her in the hospital, and the last in the line, all grouped around the casket. They each said their goodbyes, but they couldn’t leave the box that they knew held their dear friend. Then an unfamiliar voice spoke, “Never forget. Remember forever.” Next to Morgan was a blonde girl with bright blue eyes wearing a black hooded cape. She looked at Morgan with a slight smile and repeated, “Remember forever.” Then she lifted up her hood and walked out. The mourning group dismissed the strange encounter and spent a few more minutes at Selene’s casket before they finally left and went home.

A couple weeks went by and the mourning period slowed down and now it was just slow depressing acceptance. Chance had been very broken and was not doing well in school. He had been drinking more, but each time he drank, he remembered Selene’s protests against it, and he felt overwhelming guilt. Eventually he stopped completely and tried to focus on work. It was difficult because he didn’t have the beautiful brown eyed motivation to do well, but he tried anyway. As for Selene’s friends, their injuries slowly healed and they had been a great comfort to each other, but nothing felt the same. When Susan wanted to have a party, a pang of emptiness was felt, because Selene had always been one of the liveliest people there. She decided to host a party in honor of Selene; hopefully to bring some kind of comforting closure to their mourning. The others, including Chance, agreed. As Susan posted the event privately on Facebook among the friends, she received a friend request from a girl named Eliana. Susan accepted it compulsively, not at all expecting this stranger to talk to her. A message popped up from Eliana, “Hello there!” Susan replied solemnly, “hi.” The next message really caught her attention, “I’m really sorry for the loss of your friend. I know she was an amazing person.” Susan hadn’t posted anything on her own profile about Selene’s death, and Eliana didn’t have a mutual friendship with Selene, at least, according to Facebook. “How do you know about that?” Susan asked. The reply was, “I knew her. I really liked her. She and I knew each other from church. I don’t think you remember me from her funeral?” Susan thought about it, and she did remember a strange blonde girl was there. Eliana’s profile picture confirmed it was the same girl. “I kind of remember you. You were wearing the black cloak jacket, right?” Eliana replied with a yes and then Susan asked her if she wanted to go to the party. Eliana replied with, “I would love to.” then she added, “By the way, call me Forever.”

The day of the party started out as a rather solemn one. Everyone arrived at Susan’s house and they all sat together in her living room and talked. Chance was one of the last to arrive. It was obvious he wasn’t keen on being here, but he came because of the love he had for Selene. Susan greeted him and felt a twinge of guilt from how tired he looked. She gently placed her hand on his arm and said, “You don’t have to be here if you don’t want to. We don’t want you to be in pain.” Chance looked at her and forced a small smile,” Selene would have wanted me to go, so I’ll stay.” Susan smiled back and said, “Okay, but if you want to leave, no one will judge you. I know Selene would understand too.” Chance thanked her and went to join the others, who greeted him with kindness and concern of his condition, clearly noticing his exhaustion. The last one to arrive was Eliana. She arrived wearing bright colors, her blonde hair was pinned up with pink clips, she had a hot pink bag covered in glittery sequins, and seemed to be in an uppity mood. Susan was a bit shocked by the girl’s behavior. Eliana gave Susan a hug and said, “It’s so good to see you!” she seemed rather happy despite the occasion. But then Eliana’s hug suddenly felt familiarly comforting. She heard her say, “Today is going to be fun, don’t worry.”
